Sir, - Paul Carey suggests (September 3rd) that the Taoiseach consider appointing a new private body to implement the O'Connell Street Plan because of the lack of visible action.
In her reply, Ms Anne Graham (September 10th) seems to suggest that much has been achieved (by Dublin Corporation?), while attempting to shift the onus to the business community for delays in the development sites.
The facts are that since the O'Connell Street Plan was launched, the Dublin City Centre Business Association owners in O'Connell Street, including the development sites, have already spent over £30 million on refitting their properties and on professional fees for the proposed developments, all of which have planning permission.
We note that work for the monument began in the same week as Mr Carey's letter appeared. We still await the establishment of the marketing group and its budget as required by the plan.
O'Connell Street stakeholders, having attended numerous meetings with Dublin Corporation, would like to see action by the Corporation on its obligations under the plan. - Yours, etc.,
Shaun Rippington, Chairman, Dublin City Centre Business Association, Dawson Street, Dublin 2.
