Madam, – As a gesture of consistency from the Oireachtas, could I suggest that the current public service moratorium be applied to Dáil vacancies and that we don’t hold any of the byelections.
In addition, a referendum should be quickly held to amend the Constitution to reduce the number of TDs to a more internationally comparative figure of 101. This, as well as enforcing Fine Gael’s pledge to abolish the Seanad, would be welcomed by the hard-pressed tax payer as real leadership in the current economic climate. – Yours, etc,
