Madam, – While it was indeed memorable to watch the glorious new Lansdowne Aviva Stadium opening on the television, people should also remember the many skilled and dedicated architectural and engineering professionals who have worked so hard and diligently over the past several years to bring it to fruition.
Sadly, its completion now means that many of them are already facing redundancy and the uncertain future that brings for them and their families. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – As a whilom Irishman since 1961, I follow the news rather seriously. I have hoped against hope against Aviva for most of four years, but of course have known that I hoped in vain.
Now that it is officially here, I have an idea about how to redeem this €400 million-plus eurofiasco.
It is partially covered, has a nice green area in the middle, has (I assume) plenty of toilet facilities, and in its food stalls refrigeration, cookers, etc. It is secure, too. What better place could there be to house Ireland’s homeless and inadequately housed? Aviva won’t be in use more than 20 or 30 days a year for football matches.
A people with its moral values where they should be will gladly let the footballers use Sandymount Strand or the Phoenix Park – and house the homeless in Aviva. – Yours, etc,
