Sir, - In the construction industry there is a well known, if tongue-in-cheek, list giving the six phases of a project as follows: 1, enthusiasm; 2, disillusionment; 3, panic; 4, search for the guilty; 5, punishment of the innocent; 6, praise and honours for the non-participants.
Whatever about phases 1-5, your report of August 8th gives some credence to phase 6 since nowhere in the article is any mention of the engineers and members of allied disciplines who planned, designed and constructed the recently opened penultimate section of the M50 motorway.
There is, of course, a political input to all public works - which calls to mind the draining of the Shannon to which the construction industry is still awaiting the call. - Yours, etc.,
Alan Kennedy, B.E., Killiney, Co. Dublin.
