Madam, - I have no reason to believe that in a week's time I (and presumably many like me) will have any recollection of the poll findings published in yesterday's edition.

While the findings may serve some useful purpose as a handy reference point for historians and political correspondents at some future date, is it not a bit bizarre that the most obvious question does not seem to have been asked at all? That is: "Which of the party leaders would you choose to lead the country for the next three years? "

Could it be that the probable answer could not be risked as it would not have fitted in with the all-prevailing anti-Ahern sentiment as expressed day in and day out in the printed and broadcast media generally - not least, Madam, in your own newspaper. - Yours, etc,
