Madam, - Since becoming Editor, you have maintained traditional Irish Times standards of news reporting and analysis, but in my view the the opinion pieces have suffered a precipitous drop in quality.
I welcome challenges to my attitudes and prejudices but they should be balanced. The Irish Times should be thought-provoking, not gratuitously provocative but Messrs Myers, Browne, Steyn and Ms Raftery seem to be unaware of the difference. If I want lopsided presentation I can get it in the tabloids and at less cost too. When I pay more, I expect more. - Yours etc.,
BRENDAN BURKE,
Millview Lawns,
Malahide.
Madam, - It is time for you to end the hoax and confirm that the "Mark Steyn" column is, in fact, a spoof written by Kevin Myers. - Yours, etc.,
GERARD CLARKE,
Stirling Park,
Dublin 14.
