Sir, - After reading Fr Enda McCormack's letter (June 16th) about Peter's authority and "the transcendent prerogative opposing the egregious error advocating women's ordination", I imagined the following: The Pope has a vision from Heaven: He sees before him a multitude of women of all races and countries, some married with children. A voice says: "Ordain these women!" The Pope replies: "Certainly not, Lord! I cannot ordain those who are unfit for the sacrament of Orders." The voice then says: "Do not call unfit those whom I have created in my own image!"
The Pope is still puzzling this out when he gets a request to meet a group of women seeking ordination. While talking with them he sees the Holy Spirit being poured on them. The Pope then declares: "Can we refuse to ordain women whom the Holy Spirit has already anointed? Truly now I realise that God has no favourites!"
Too far-fetched? Not when one reads Acts 10: This is exactly how God removed Peter's blind spot about the admission of gentiles to the Church. May our Pope and bishops be men of vision! - Yours, etc.,
