Madam, - In a move which seems designed to alienate many older listeners, RTÉ Radio 1 plans to air O'Brien on Songat 11pm on Sundays, rather than in its current seven o'clock slot.
I suppose the powers that be would argue that, in these days, it is easy to play the programme back through the computer at any time you wish. But is it not precisely those who represent Jack O'Brien's audience who are least likely to use a computer? Do not the people upon whose hard work and sacrifice the nation's present prosperity is built deserve a little consideration?
Heaven knows, there are few enough programmes now to appeal to an older audience; and, like that audience, they are dwindling in number all the time.
RTÉ Radio seems determined, from time to time, to shoot itself in the foot. - Yours, etc,
PAUL GRIFFIN, St Helens, Merseyside, England.
