Sir, - We are told that the Irish give more to the Third World than any other nation per head of population. That's to our credit, as is the fact that the Government has, now decided to increase substantially its contribution to the needy in Africa and elsewhere.
John O'Shea's letter (Irish Times, March 3rd) suggests that all of our contribution may not be hitting its target and that the Irish relief agencies and Irish missionaries are getting only a small slice, of the financial cake. If that is the case, the Government should take a close look at the issue without delay.
The sum involved, £120 million, is not insignificant. If it has been set aside to help the poor, then that is where it must go. - Yours, etc.
Granitefield,
