Madam, – With the James Bulger case back in the news it is surely now a matter of urgency that the law is changed so that parents go on trial alongside their minor children for offences committed by those children.
No child who has been shown and taught basic morals would be capable of the actions of James Bulger’s killers. Parents should not be able to abdicate responsibility when their children break the law, and if they knew they would be prosecuted for their children’s crimes, they might take their child-rearing a little more seriously. – Yours, etc,
