Sir, – Sean O'Donovan (March 8th), a fellow Londoner, is somewhat naive if he truly believes that every Briton applying for Irish citizenship is honouring those involved in both the Easter Rising and the War of Independence ("UK rush for Irish passports 'brought on by Brexit fears'", News, March 4th).
Just as there are many British citizens who are republicans, there is no all-encompassing key to national identity. My own UK-born children hold Irish passports in honour of their Irish ancestors who fought during the “Emergency”; more pragmatically, the passports are both cheaper and ensure that they shall continue to be EU citizens whatever the outcome of the Brexit referendum. – Yours, etc,
