Sir, - Much of what Prof Tom O'Dowd says (February 12th) is of course true and well-directed at the problems that are being increasingly identified in the health services available to our population, which is shortly to overtake Germany in terms of GDP. However, I feel he aims his darts at the wrong target.
He and I both know that GPs who serve both GMS and private patients have it written into our contracts with the various health boards that we cannot discriminate in any way between these two groups. Would that the same type of agreement could apply to the hospital sector. - Yours, etc.,
John Madden, President, Irish College of General Practitioners, Carndonagh, Co Donegal.
