A chara, – Michael Moriarty begins "Is it right for philanthropies to fund social change?" (Opinion & Analysis, July 20th) by reminding us that there are people who are worried that a lot of social change in this country is being driven by foreign money being used to skilfully manipulate the public.
The remainder of the article is essentially an admission that their fears are correct, and justifying it because it is in a good cause – “social justice isn’t just something to be dispensed from a civilised West to the barbaric rest of the world”, he says.
No indeed; instead we have the “civilised” super-rich prepared to spend, spend, spend until the “barbaric” rest of us yield to their vision of how the world should be.
We shouldn’t be surprised; as they say in business circles “Cash is king”. I guess in this case those with the cash are proving themselves to be the kings of us all. – Is mise,
