Sir, - Frank Hughes of the Dublin Flagship Initiative and your own Frank McDonald have cogently and correctly made the case for immediate intervention by the Minister for the Environment in relation to the sewage treatment plant at the Poolbeg peninsula.
Along with local public representatives, I have lobbied for an imaginative response from the city authorities on this issue. Unfortunately, they are caught in the stranglehold of a bureaucracy tied into European red tape and Government inertia. The Poolbeg peninsula deserves better. There is no reason why a modern symbol of the vibrant country that is now Ireland cannot be located at this entrance point to the capital city.
I join with the Docklands Flagship Initiative and other concerned representatives in calling on Minister Dempsey to ensure that Dublin Corporation gets the assistance required to make Docklands a truly living symbol of what Agenda 21 is all about. Action on the sewage treatment plant is a necessary first step. - Yours, etc.,
