Madam, - If, as seems likely, Micheál Martin's admirable - and some might say Orwellian - plan to ban smoking in pubs goes ahead, may I suggest that the local councils throughout the State install appropriate receptacles outside every hostelry in the land in order to facilitate the compliant smokers who go outside the pub to have a puff and to discard their cigarette butts?
We wouldn't want the poor smoker prosecuted outside the premises for littering the pavement. - Yours, etc.,
