Sir, - Cllr Michael Healy-Rae's proposal to change the Kerry county plan by requiring the council to take into account the financial need of farmers who are seeking planning permission does not make much sense.
It would lead to a situation where a scenic area in Kerry would be protected from the building intentions of a wealthy farmer but would be vulnerable to the bricks-and-mortar plans of a less well-off farmer.
A planning application is good or it is bad, advisable or inadvisable. The financial need of the applicant is about as relevant as the financial need of the planner in the council. - Yours, etc.,
Michael McGuire, Garvery, Burnfoot, Co Donegal.
