A chara, - Good luck to Poetry Ireland in its new premises (Arts, August 19th). It is exciting that the Royal College of Surgeons is providing the premises and related facilities.
That link between arts and medicine could inspire closer bonds. Trinity College's tradition of arts studies for undergraduates in professional faculties provides a precedent. The drawback of an over-academic emphasis in medical studies and training is now topical.
To redress the cultural imbalance, poets could provide some lectures for medical students. That could stimulate interesting outcomes, including prescriptions written in verse.
Perhaps more poetry would reduce society's need for medicine. - Is mise,
