Sir, - I was quite fascinated to read the report (The Irish Times, December 1st) on Sinn Fein's submission to the Patten Commission on Policing in Northern Ireland.
According to your report, Sinn Fein wants no obstacles put in the way of former paramilitaries joining a new police force, while at the same time demanding a screening process which would identify and exclude "human rights violators".
I wonder how the families of victims of IRA bombings and "punishment beatings" will feel about the obvious contradiction in these demands? - Yours, etc., Ray Cass,
Dublin 2.
