Sir, - Just a brief footnote to the debate on election spending. This week the British Home Office published its election spending limits for any general election to be held in the UK this year.
Each party is to be allowed to spend no more than £22,500 per constituency, inclusive of the party's national campaign expenditure.
This is less than half of what Fianna Fail is proposing in its amendment to the Electoral Act here. For example, in the Taoiseach's constituency Fianna Fail will be allowed to spend at least £50,000.
