Madam, - In recent days Michael McDowell has attempted to brand the New Rainbow alliance as a "slump coalition" (The Irish Times, September 14th). He has also said that in such a coalition, the Labour Party would seek to raise taxes and that Enda Kenny is making a big mistake in ruling out the PDs as coalition partners instead of the Greens.

It seems to me that the only thing the Minister has against this "slump coalition" is that neither Enda Kenny nor Pat Rabbitte wants him or the PDs in it. - Yours, etc,
