Madam, - When I heard that some Fianna Fáil members in Co Clare now have no confidence in the Taoiseach, I wondered if the penny had finally dropped.
After the scandals of the Moriarty and Mahon tribunals revelations about blank cheques, money from friends who subsequently received favourable appointments, payments still unaccounted for with discredited explanations, it seemed some people in his own party were finally starting to question whether the Taoiseach should be in office.
Had ethics been discovered and was there now a desire to clean up Irish politics?
But, no. It is because they disagree with his approach to the Shannon airport fiasco. The rest is presumably still okay, then? Well, financial probity and integrity do not seem to have been an issue with the electorate either. So while that bemuses me, perhaps their priorities are right after all. - Is mise,
