Sir, - I couriered a letter from the General Post Office Dublin by EMS on Thursday morning, April 16th to London. It was guaranteed to be in Dover Street, London, before midday on Friday 17th. The Dover Street office opens at 9.30 a.m. and a card was found there to say delivery had been attempted at 9.20 a.m. on Friday 17th by Parcel Force Worldwide. On Monday 20th the letter still had not arrived at its London address. On Tuesday 21st the parcel remained still undelivered. The London addressee was informed that it could not be delivered until Wednesday 22nd.
Had I sent the letter by standard mail for £1.20, it would have been delivered on Monday 20th, two days earlier than EMS, which cost me £21.78. This adds a new meaning to the words "special delivery service".
I may say that An Post accomplished its side of the arrangements without a hitch and was most helpful in dealing with the matter on this side. - Yours, etc.,
Ulick O'connor
