Sir, - A specific subject has come to my mind recently, mainly because less than two years ago it was constantly making media headlines, yet now seems to have been forgotten about. I am, of course, referring to potholes.
Whatever happened to them? Could it be possible, wonder of wonders, that they have all been filled in? I am aware that the Tour de France was responsible for an improvement to many of our roads, but only those on which the race was run. To the best of my knowledge the roads in the northwest of the country, from where many pothole complaints emanated, were not affected.
I am rather sceptical about accepting the obvious solution to this great mystery, i.e. that they have all been repaired. Maybe someone would enlighten me. - Yours, etc.,
