Madam, – The impending general election presents an opportunity for the people to offer a new employment contract containing a revised remuneration package, including pension provision, to 166 TDs.
This contract should become a benchmark for the remuneration packages of Ministers and other office holders in Dáil Éireann. Likewise, the benchmark should apply to Seanad Éireann.
Let each political party now issue a detailed statement showing how, if in government, it would remunerate TDs, ministers, senators, committee chairpersons, etc.
These statements will help the people to decide how to cast their votes in the general election and thus determine how the Oireachtas will function from 2011 onwards. – Yours, etc,
