Sir, - I had hoped that the print media would have exercised some restraint when the President of the 26 Counties announced her decision not to seek re election. Alas, in vain, there has been a field day in grovelling, built around the suggestion that this lady was a human rights activist.
Certainly she shed tears in far distant lands, but she showed little or no interest in the nationalist population of the Six Counties who have been at the mercy of the bullyboys of the British Army and the armed thugs of the RUC for far too long. Indeed, she resigned from the Labour Party in protest against the Anglo Irish Agreement which, in her opinion, posed a threat to her unionist friends.
In furtherance of her career, Ms. Robinson met the British monarch in private audience. All the nodding and the bowing have paid handsome dividends as Madame President stands on the threshold of a lucrative career, and I congratulate her on a campaign well conducted. - Yours, etc.,
Baron Park,
Clonmel
