Madam, – The need for an extra 10,000 reinforcing piles to stop the new M7 motorway sinking into Annaholty Bog (Home News, August 31st) demonstrates the advisability of taking test bores along the proposed line of the road at the route selection stage rather than leaving it until after the route selection was completed, as happened in this case.
In that way the current fiasco would have been avoided and a more suitable route chosen. – Yours, etc,
