Sir, - I'm sorry that Patrick Kenny (September 25th) feels that I misunderstood his concern as being purely financial. Perhaps he missed the point of my letter too!
It may come as a shock to him to find out that I am a fully active member of the Roman Catholic Church and so, by his own criteria, I am quite entitled to comment on what he see as "internal matters".
There are many people who both love the church and see its shortcomings. Jesus did not hand Peter a finished product and the papacy has not always been the most wonderful example of fidelity to the spirit of Christ.
There is room in the church for differences of opinion and it is not simply a matter of "selecting a belief system more suitable to .. . customised tastes." - Yours, etc., Gerry Noonan,
