Sir, - My attention was caught by the heading, "Taoiseach unveils plaque to 1798 lawyers" (The Irish Times, December 21st).
I immediately thought that, given the number involved, it must have something to do with Army "deafness".
However, as I read further, I realised that it could not be, as the Taoiseach said that "they chose to put principle before profit, and the general good above their private gain."
