Sir, – Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar, in reply to my message concerning serious noise pollution close to our home, has assured me by e-mail that regulations controlling the excessive noise created by amplified exhausts fitted to motor vehicles are firmly in place.
Whereas the reality is that the fleas on the dogs in the street know we are all being deafened on a daily and nightly basis by the equivalent of Boeing 707s landing and taking off in cities and towns across Ireland.
The sick and elderly endure the extreme ear-splitting acceleration and the constant very noisy idling of these cars at road junctions at all times of the day and night.
The offending vehicles even roar in and out of hospital grounds.
