A chara, - Hugo Brady Brown (January 5th) seems to think people are fools. He refers to "the selective availability of Ministers to journalistic and parliamentary scrutiny" and the "bafflement of the electorate through slick and personalised media campaigns" and says that as a result the Government controls the news agenda and can hoodwink the people.
We have a very vibrant and healthily cynical media in Ireland which have no problem in exposing political failings and an intelligent electorate which can easily make its judgments on those failings - as well, of course, as on successes.
He may not like the current Government but he should not condemn the public as susceptible to "amnesia" when they choose their public representatives at the next election. If he feels so strongly about it, perhaps he should stand as a candidate. - Is mise,
