Sir - I think that the measures suggested by John Tierney (July 17th), to protect the Golden Eagle in Ireland should be taken even further. We should follow the example of African states that employ armed wildlife rangers to protect endangered species from the unwanted attention of would-be poachers. The improvement in eyesight and ornithological knowledge amongst the brave hunters of Ireland would be remarkable. - Yours, etc.,
