Madam, - Rev Pat Griffin (March 18th) is the latest letter-writer to call for the 9pm pub curfew on children to be abolished.

In my experience as a regular drinker, many parents with young children arrive in the pub in the afternoon and get drunk over the next few hours while letting their children run riot (inside and outside the premises), feeding them occasional bags of crisps and soft drinks to keep them "quiet".

Were it not for the 9pm deadline most of these would stay in the pub until closing time.

I therefore strongly support the current regulation - and the minority of publicans who impose their own, earlier, deadline, e.g. 7pm. - Yours, etc.,
