Madam, – Utilising CSO statistics with verve (collated, incidentally, by public sector offiicials), Ben Wrafter (October 25th) enunciates fervently the great dream of the “wealth creators”, ie the further debasement of wage packets in the land.

He neglects to mention the fact that, in both public and private sectors, thousands upon thousands of people are struggling to live on pay that is below the two averages he quotes. Still, if the low-paid in the public sector can be made work for near slave-wage levels, the same reduction can be foisted upon low-paid private sector workers too. In the process, the “wealth creators” can create more wealth – for themselves. – Yours, etc,
