Public service decentralisation

Madam, - I commend Chris Dooley (Opinion, June 29th) for telling it like it is on decentralisation.

Time and again the Government has been questioned about this nonsensical move and time and again it has refused to answer. The views of most public servants have been ignored while the Government pushes blindly ahead.

As a State agency employee I am interested to know how the Government plans to replace the considerable expertise that will be lost in this sector and what guarantees it is prepared to give for the careers of State agency staff who are volunteering to remain in Dublin.

Chris Dooley describes the decentralisation programme as a disaster waiting to happen and I ask that your readers acknowledge the real effects the plan will have on the men and women of the civil and public service.
