Punishing tax cheats

Madam, - The Revenue Commissioners are to be commended for not jailing the crooks that failed to come clean in the Tax Amnesty (The Irish Times, January 30th). Why should the taxpayer have to fork out more money, on top of all the other loot, to provide eight years very expensive board and lodging for these people?

As a punishment, instead of jail, why not make the offenders sponsor the upkeep of one of their less fortune brethren already in the slammer? I'm sure the embattled Prison Service would be glad of the help. - Yours, etc.,
