Madam, – I read with dismay Paul Cullen’s report (May 10th) that local authority workers have damaged some of the climbs in Dalkey Quarry with a bulldozer.

Dalkey Quarry is a unique part of the rich heritage of mountain climbing in Ireland. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is extremely fortunate to have this fabulous amenity open and available to all levels of climbers in their area. The local authority should take immediate action to cease any further work on the site. It would also be welcome if they would consult with mountaineering experts before they undertake any future work on the climbs. – Yours, etc,
