Sir, – I enjoyed Dara Mac Dónaill’s eye-catching photograph and Tim O’Brien’s lively report on homeless man John Byrne, who bravely rescued his pet rabbit Barney from drowning in the river Liffey, and his subsequent job offer from the animal welfare charity Animal Rights Action Network (Home News, July 13th).
This feel-good piece was, however, in contrast to the implied endorsement of The Irish Timesof rabbit cage traps, which boast "many years of rabbit trapping", in the print and online "Reader Shop" advertisements (www.irishtimes.com/readershop).
Animal welfare workers have many busy years ahead of them as it is. – Yours, etc,
