Sir, - With reference to James Connolly Heron's letter of September 12th, Dublin Corporation would like to make the following points.
The works currently under way at the Triangle in Ranelagh represent an amenity scheme developed by Dublin Corporation which involves the provision of a new kiosk incorporating toilet facilities.
This is one of a number of major urban design projects being implemented at key locations around the city.
The primary objective is to strengthen the village core of Ranelagh at the Triangle. This is being achieved both through the realignment of traffic at this junction and the rationalisation of road space in order to provide safer pedestrian facilities.
The resultant space is a substantial increase in pedestrian amenity, paved in granite, with new street furniture and landscaping.
It is also intended to commemorate the late Deirdre Kelly, conservationist and environmentalist, in the heart of Ranelagh village, her home for many years. - Yours, etc.,
Jim Barrett, City Architect, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8.
