Madam, - Mary Harney objects (June 4th) to Garret FitzGerald's use of the word "recent" in relation to a recession in the 1980s. It may be a matter of age. When she reaches Garret's age, she too may feel that something that happened within 20 years is recent.
Incidentally, at a meeting in Rome in the 1980s between Irish Government and Vatican officials, it emerged that the most recent document on the current Vatican file on Ireland was a letter from Archbishop Oliver Plunkett (1625-1681).
