Sir, – The word “recovery” is frequently used in articles pertaining to the property market (“Free fall over but Budget will not help recovery”, Property, December 13th).

What is the state to which we wish the property market to recover? Surely we do not wish to recover to the abnormal bubble which caused such financial suffering for many and deprived a generation of a reasonable home at a fair price? I fear that the use of this word is symptomatic of a misconception that good economic climes are necessarily accompanied by inflated property prices.

I think correcting this wrong view will go some way to ensuring that the errors of the past are not wantonly replicated. – Yours, etc,
