Madam, - Mary McDonald (Letters, July 22nd) quite rightly laments the decision by An Bord Pleanála to allow the redevelopment of the Clarence hotel, stating that it bodes ill for the future of Dublin's architectural heritage.
This, however, is nothing new. Our rich architectural landscape has been under threat for years thanks to unscrupulous developers and inertia on the part of the planning authorities.
To date we have had Wood Quay and Archers garage. How much more architectural slaughter will be allowed in our great city? - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL FLOOD (jnr), Leopardstown Valley, Dublin 18.
