Sir, - It would seem that the appropriate human and Christian response to the situation where thousands are seeking asylum within our country is to allow them into full Irish citizenship. The family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph had to leave their home in fear of death and cross into Egypt where they lived for many years as illegal refugees.
If they had to face 20th-century European immigrant laws and preconditions in the Egypt of their time then surely there would have been no Christianity. Is there no place for the refugee God in our modern Ireland? - Yours, etc.,
Brendan Butler,
Pennock Hill, Swords, Co Dublin.
