Sir, - The current debate about immigration reminds me of a speech by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to a Convention of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR is the nearest thing to an American aristocracy; its members are direct descendents of participants in the US War of Independence. FDR's lineage was even more impressive, going back to the Dutch founders of New York city (then New Amsterdam) in the early 1600s.
