Madam, - To argue, as does Senator Mary O'Rourke (Oct. 27th), that the church should give its blessing to divorced people who remarry simply because the Irish State does so is a step toward totalitarianism.
After all, the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland is not the Irish national church.
To insist that the church should bless remarriages by divorced people might soon be followed by an insistence that the church give its blessings to single-sex unions if and when the State allows such. - Yours, etc,
