Sir, – The world of sport, and not just journalism, has suffered great loss with the passing of both Paddy Downey and Sean Diffley (Sport, March 5th).
People of all ages have been consistently enthralled and amused by their coverage of both Gaelic games and rugby down through the years and it is probably their sense of wit and humility that people will miss most. Their opinions were never anything less than incisive and they were always fair and balanced.
Their musings have endured the test of time and the evolving nature of both of the sports that they loved – all sports fans both at home and around the world who shared their passion for both the GAA and rugby football should agree on that at least. – Yours, etc,
