Madam, - I recall Maureen Potter's remarks in a radio interview I had the privilege of doing with her about ten years ago.
1. "I remember a fictional character asking his dying grandfather what legacy he was leaving him. The grandfather just said: 'Be delighted!' For me that is a magical thing - to be delighted. I try to be delighted about everything - the first primroses, the nape of a baby's neck . . ."
2. "I like to think that, just around the corner, something wonderful is about to happen . . ."
3. "I'll just keep going till I hear glass . . ."
Maureen, the only glass you'll hear is the clink of champagne glasses welcoming you home as you realise the something wonderful has finally happened. And as for legacy, we were simply delighted by your presence. - Yours, etc.,
