Madam, – For the past two or three years, I have been very concerned about the cross contamination of GM crops with natural healthy crops. Judging by the behaviour of the Green Party recently, especially (by coincidence?) the former Minister of State for Food and Horticulture, it appears that such cross- contamination can also occur between political parties. I would be hard- pressed to say which is the most dangerous for the future of Ireland. – Yours, etc,

Madam, – I have been heartened by the strong ethical standard espoused by Trevor Sargent in his swift and gallant resignation. This, of course, is in stark contrast with the self-pitying and diehard attitude of former minister Willie O’Dea in his resignation last week. Mr Sargent acknowledged what he did in making representations to a Garda about the investigation of a constituent was wholeheartedly wrong. He took his medicine by sacrificing his office gracefully, within a matter of hours.

Mr Sargent’s action has assured me that there may be some dignity, morality and gravitas still left in Leinster House, albeit in short supply. – Yours, etc,
