Sir, - "When America teaches her children. . .values that respect life in our country, our country will be better off." This was President George W. Bush's comment on the fatal shooting at a California high school (The Irish Times, March 6th).
How can Mr Bush sermonise the American public so hypocritically, given the appallingly high instance of death penalty implementation during his time as governor of Texas? When parents and figures of authority accept responsibility for the country's children, it will be better off indeed. - Yours, etc.,
