Sir, – The announcement of the restoration of Killarney House is to be welcomed (Home News, August 1st).
On a wonderful holiday in Killarney last August, I spent some time wandering the environs of the house and the wider national park. Given that the house directly connects the centre of the town to the park, I could not understand why this once-beautiful “gateway” had been allowed to become so dilapidated. While they are at it, perhaps they would consider building a cycle track or pathway through the park to connect Ross Castle with Muckross House, so that cyclists do not have to risk life and limb travelling the very busy main road between the two.
Finally, have the local authorities considered pedestrianising at least part of the traffic-choked town? – Yours, etc,
