Madam, - After a number of responses which missed the point of my letter of July 12th, thanks to George Reynolds (July 18th) for answering the "peak uranium" question I posed.

However, I assume that the dates he mentions depend on current rates of global consumption, and that these dates would move significantly closer to the present day if, for the sake of argument, all oil- and gas-fuelled generators were to be replaced with nuclear power stations - to say nothing of the destruction caused, for example, to one-third of the length of Sweden as mentioned in Mr Reynold's letter.

Uranium mining can be ruinous to the environment and the less destructive the mining technique (e.g. underground) the greater the health risks posed to the people unfortunate enough to work in these mines. - Yours, etc,
